Jackson Women’s Health Organization\u003C/em>\u003C/a>\u003Cem class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\"> (2022) which held that there was no constitutional right to abortion and decided that individual states have the authority to regulate access to abortion services. In the days before and since the decision, a large amount of literature has been produced both on the implications of this ruling for individuals’ data privacy and the effects on women’s social and economic lives. It is clear that, while opinions on access to abortion services are often influenced by deeply held attitudes about women’s bodily autonomy and when life begins, data has critical importance both as a potential source of risk and as a tool to understand the decision’s impact.\u003C/em>\u003C/p>\u003Cp name=\"34da\" id=\"34da\" class=\"graf graf--p graf-after--p\">\u003Cem class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">Below we curate some stories from news sources and academic papers on the role of data in abortion services as well as data-driven research by institutions into the effects of abortion. Wade \u003C/em>(1973), there has been significant public concern about the (re)use of the data these apps collect.\u003C/li>\u003Cli name=\"3726\" id=\"3726\" class=\"graf graf--li graf-after--li\">They detail different kinds of data that could be subpoenaed from period trackers and the terminology that users can search for in an app’s privacy policy to understand how their data will be used. The number of women with college degrees would drop by 1.8% age points. The study is an initiative by Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH), a program within the UCSF Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health. It examines 1,000 women seeking abortion from 30 facilities around the country, with interviews conducted over five years.\u003C/li>\u003Cli name=\"8051\" id=\"8051\" class=\"graf graf--li graf-after--li\">Studies conducted with the dataset find that the most common reason for women to seek an abortion was not being able to afford a child and/or not having a suitable partner/parent involved to assist with childrearing. Most women don’t feel pressured by counseling that occurs in clinics but find it less helpful when it is state-mandated. Half of all women report seeing anti-abortion protestors at clinics and greater contact with them tends to be more upsetting.\u003C/li>\u003Cli name=\"b4f4\" id=\"b4f4\" class=\"graf graf--li graf-after--li\">Studies also suggest no evidence that abortion causes negative mental health outcomes, although being denied an abortion is associated with elevated anxiety and stress and lower self-esteem. Those who receive an abortion experience “a mix of positive and negative emotions in the days after […] with relief predominating.” The intensity of the emotion diminishes over time but over 95% of women report “abortion was the right decision for them at all times over five years after.”\u003C/li>\u003Cli name=\"2b15\" id=\"2b15\" class=\"graf graf--li graf-after--li\">Carrying an unwanted pregnancy tended to be associated with worse outcomes for women’s physical health and socioeconomic status. Women denied abortion who later gave birth reported more chronic pain and rated their overall health as worse. Economic insecurity for women and their families increased almost four-fold. He co-directs ANZSOG&rsquo;s Deputies Leadership Program with Kathryn Anderson, that integrates a significant focus on the evolution of leadership responses to the opportunities and risks of digital, data and AI capabilities and platforms.\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>From 2001 to 2013, Martin led the Asia-Pacific public sector consulting and innovation team in Cisco&rsquo;s Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG). He led strategy and design work on digital transformation and public policy and public sector reform projects in government, education, health, human services and urbanisation in India, China, South-East Asia, Australia and New Zealand.\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>Prior to his role in Cisco, Martin held various policy and management roles in the federal public sector, including Chief of Staff to a Minister in the Federal Government, a federal public servant (Communications, Sport, Recreation and Tourism) and as a research and strategy lead in the Office of Strategic Planning in the NSW Cabinet Office. For the past three years, and again in 2026, he has been a Learning Guide and facilities for the NSW Leadership Academy (Band 1 and Band 2 senior executives).\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>He chaired the former NSW Digital Government Advisory Panel and the Expert Advisory Group for the Welfare Payments Infrastructure Transformation program (WPIT) for the former federal Department of Human Services (now Services Australia).\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>He was a member of the Government 2.0 Task Force established by Federal Minister for Finance, Lindsay Tanner, in 2009. In 2017, Martin was one of 3 members of a review for the NSW Government, chaired by former NSW Premier Nick Greiner AC, of regulatory policy and strategy across the State.\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>He was an inaugural member of the NSW AI Advisory Group which crafted the early versions of what has now become the NSW AI Assurance Framework which is also being adapted as a national AI assurance framework.\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>Martin writes and speaks extensively on government, service design, digital transformation, the impact of AI in government and on public leadership for the digital age as well as on different dimensions of policy reform. Together with former Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner, he wrote Changing Shape: Institutions for a Digital Age (Longueville Press, February 2014).\u003C/p>\n\u003Cp>He is also co-author with Simon Cooper of (Are We There Yet?
